God bless those naïve rookies.

Lions running back Kevin Smith may have eclipsed Donovan McNabb for providing the quote of the week with a few humorous and curious comments about the state of his team.

Smith has a combination of humor and cockiness that make him fun to listen to and a favorite among Motor City reporters. However, his comments about the teams future show that, while a positive attitude is good, there should always be room for common sense.

“I’m going to be real now --we’re 0-10 and the playoffs are probably slim to nothing. I’m going to keep it at slim, though, I’ll leave slim in there. You learn from this.”

Now, I applaud Smith for his rosy outlook, but facts are facts and the bottom line is the Lions are already mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. 

For the rest of the year, Smith can back up one of his other claims. Making the Lions the best running team in the Lea...wait, better he explains it. “Don’t count us out as far as running the ball. We’re at the bottom right now but I have plans on taking over the world.”

Even though it’s impossible to believe either claim, we’ve got to give some MAD LOVE to Kevin Smith for bringing some levity to the Detroit Lions.
